TERMS OF SERVICE

Terms of Service

Version: 30 September 2026
Applies to the Klee Translate website, browser extension and the accompanying account and translation services.

A few things to know before you start.

This service is not available to users in mainland China. Translation runs through third-party model APIs, translations can be wrong, and you need to judge them against the original. Caches are isolated per user; re-translating with a higher model is billed in full at that model's rate.

Plan and top-up credits roll over once under the rules below; when a subscription stops, rolled-over credits freeze and their remaining validity pauses, resuming when you subscribe again. Every price and the effect of each purchase is shown before you pay.

01 · Scope and eligibility

Klee Translate is developed, operated and maintained by 上海市长宁区湖歌译翻译服务工作室, an individual business (个体工商户) registered in Shanghai, mainland China. This agreement is between you and that business; where the operator is located and where the service is offered are two different things, as the next paragraph explains. We provide streaming subtitle, web page and selection translation in the browser, along with the accounts, personal entries, subscriptions and credits that go with them. Data handling is described in the privacy policy.

The service is not currently offered, promoted or sold to users in mainland China. Users located in mainland China must not register for, purchase or use the service, and must not work around this limit by misstating their location, using a proxy or any other means. The limit is about where the service is offered; it is not judged by interface language or nationality.

You must be able to enter into and perform this agreement under the law. Anyone under 16 must not use the service; some EU member states set a lower age of consent for information society services (13 at the lowest) and the local rule applies there, but in no case may anyone under 13 use it. Other minors must also meet their local age requirements and obtain guardian permission where the law requires it. If you no longer qualify, or a change of region means you cannot continue, contact support to deal with the account and any unfulfilled orders; this does not take away the data rights you already have or any refund rights you have under the law.

02 · Accounts and use

Using the translation service requires an account, the necessary email verification and an active trial or subscription entitlement. When you register you must tick the box accepting these terms and the privacy policy; registration cannot start without it, and signing in to an existing account does not ask again. Where the law requires separate consent to a significant update, we will ask separately. You must give accurate, reachable registration details, keep your credentials safe, and must not resell the account, impersonate anyone or use repeated registrations to get around trial and quota limits.

If you notice unauthorised access, contact support@kleetranslate.com promptly. Actions taken in an account are handled on the basis of that account's records, but the mere use of your credentials does not release us from the security duties we owe under the law, nor allow us to refuse to look into a dispute.

Automatic translation only runs once you switch it on, and it can keep consuming credits. You can turn it off in the extension. Please make sure your browser, extension version, network connection and third-party platform subscriptions meet the requirements.

03 · Translation results and per-user cache

We are a translation tool. We do not provide film or television content, streaming memberships, or any means of bypassing a third party's content restrictions. You must obtain the original content and the right to use it lawfully; the third-party platform's own accounts, fees, regional availability and terms still apply.

What this software does and does not do. We process only the subtitle text your own player has already obtained and is playing, the web page text you ask to have translated, and the text of documents you open in the extension or in the translation tools on our website and choose to translate. We do not download, store or forward video or audio; we do not break or bypass digital rights management or any technical protection measure; we provide no way to export a subtitle translation as a subtitle file, and no way to share any translation with anyone else. Subtitle and web page translations are shown only inside your own account, alongside the content you are watching or browsing, isolated per account (see the next paragraph). They are not a copy or a distribution of the original work.

For document translation (PDFs and images), you supply the file and you keep the result. Only translate documents you have the right to translate — for example your own files, files you are licensed to translate, or files the law where you live lets you translate for personal study or research. Documents protected by an open password can be imported once you enter the password. Documents whose author forbids copying their content cannot be translated, and those that forbid printing cannot be exported as PDF, unless you enter the permissions password the author provided. The original and its translation are stored only on your device; we keep no copy on our servers and offer no cloud sync or sharing. You can export a translation as a file (including a PDF that keeps the original layout, and translated images for an image document); keeping exported files is your responsibility, and whether you may publish them or use them commercially depends on the rights in the original work and the applicable law (see section 08). In a PDF, content recognised as tables, formulas, running headers and footers or illustrations is currently left as it is and not translated; text in scanned pages and images is translated only after you choose enhanced recognition for that document, and pages that are too blurry to read reliably are left as they are.

Your subtitles, translations, jobs and caches are isolated per account and are not shared with other users. One account can keep versions of the same episode from different models and in different target languages. Eligible personal caches can be reused, and your own unfinished jobs can be resumed. Another user's finished or running translation never becomes your cache or your progress.

Caching exists to make continued use smoother; it is not a promise of permanent backup. Cache expiry, clearing your records, changes to the source content or a service fix may require reprocessing; any charge follows section 04 and the rules shown before you start. How data is kept and deleted is set out in the privacy policy.

AI translations can contain mistranslations, omissions, wrong inferences or phrasing that does not fit the context. A model's name, our recommendation or its tier is not a guarantee of accuracy. For medical, legal, financial, academic or similarly important uses, a qualified person should check against the original; important decisions must not rest on the translation alone.

04 · Models and credit billing

  • Charges follow the feature, the model you chose, the target language and the amount actually processed. The credits, episode counts or page counts shown before you start are estimates under those conditions; episode length, batching and caching can change the final consumption, and the actual record is visible in your account.
  • Batched translation: the quote for the opening batch is not the total for the episode. With “continue automatically” or automatic translation of the next episode switched on, later batches can keep charging; decide whether to start by looking at the whole-episode estimate and your automation settings.
  • Re-translating with a higher model: once the current model has finished this episode, you can re-translate with a higher model you are entitled to use. That is a new translation billed in full at the target model's rate — not the difference between the two models — and it does not erase the consumption of the service already provided. The interface states the model and the expected consumption for that run.
  • Personal cache: for a subtitle version already paid for in this account and still reusable, opening it again does not charge the same translation twice. A cache hit does not mean another user paid for you, and it does not grant access to another user's results. Web page translation follows the billing rules shown for it.
  • Document translation: the pages you select are processed in batches, and credits are deducted batch by batch according to the estimate shown before you start, each batch when its processing begins; if your credits run out, the remaining batches pause and resume once you have enough. Credits for a batch are refunded automatically if it fails, if you delete the document midway, or if its result is lost before it is downloaded. Finished translations are downloaded automatically by the extension; any not downloaded within 7 days are deleted and the credits charged for them are not refunded. Document translations are not cached on our servers: if the data on your device is cleared, translating again is billed as a new translation. Enhanced recognition of scanned pages and images is charged separately per page: before recognition starts, the number of pages and credits is shown for each document and needs your confirmation; pages that fail are refunded automatically, and pages too blurry to recognise are not charged.
  • Incorrect records: if you have questions about a double charge, a charge after a failed job, or a difference from the quote, contact support with the job or order identifier. Confirmed incorrect charges are corrected; where the law requires a refund or another remedy, that applies.

Credits measure translation allowance within this service only. They are not money, a deposit or an investable asset, and cannot be transferred, resold or exchanged for cash — except where a refund is processed under the law. We do not change rates after the fact in order to charge more for jobs already completed.

05 · Subscriptions, renewal and top-ups

The plans available, their prices, the range of models and the allowances are those shown on the pricing page and on the order confirmation before payment. A transaction is defined by what you confirmed and by the payment result — not by a demo page, a sandbox result or parameters in the browser's address bar.

  • Monthly purchase: today each month is a single payment you start yourself; nothing is charged automatically. Buying again requires your confirmation.
  • Renewing the same tier: buying the same tier during an active subscription extends its validity; this month's remaining credits are not reset or stacked by the renewal, and the monthly allowance still arrives with the subscription cycle.
  • Upgrading: buying a higher tier during an active subscription switches immediately on full payment, restarting the cycle and this period's allowance under the new plan; the old plan's remaining credits and remaining validity are not kept, while credits already rolled over keep their own remaining validity. The payment page states this effect beforehand.
  • Downgrading: a lower tier cannot be bought while a subscription is active; you can choose it once the current subscription ends.
  • Top-ups: these add credits to an eligible active paid subscription. They do not extend the subscription or add models. Whatever is left over rolls over under section 06.

All purchases are completed through Creem. Creem is the Merchant of Record handling collection, the related taxes and billing, and its purchase terms are shown before checkout; development, translation features and user support remain our responsibility. Every purchase is a one-time payment you confirm yourself and is never renewed automatically; accepting these terms at registration does not authorise any charge.

Payment is treated as received on the basis of the payment result verified by our server. If a change in account status at the time of payment means an entitlement cannot be granted automatically, contact support to reconcile it; an order that has been paid must not be treated as unpaid.

06 · Rollover, validity and freezing

At the end of each monthly cycle, unused plan credits and top-up credits roll over into the next cycle and can be used for one extra month. Rollover happens once; credits that have already rolled over do not roll over again when they expire. Your balance, expiry dates and freeze status in your account records are authoritative.

  • Available rolled-over credits are spent first, before the current period's credits.
  • When a subscription expires or stops, rolled-over credits freeze immediately, cannot be used, and their remaining validity stops counting down.
  • Starting any valid subscription again unfreezes them and resumes the remaining validity; it does not grant a fresh full month.
  • For example: if you stop with 20 days of validity left, those 20 days are not consumed while frozen, and you get them back when you subscribe again.
  • Credits belonging to a refunded order are withdrawn with the refund; a refunded allowance cannot continue to be used through rollover.

Rollover does not change subscription or model entitlements: having credits is not the same as having an active subscription, and it does not unlock models outside your plan.

07 · Refunds, withdrawal and payment problems

If you are charged twice, are charged without receiving the entitlement, cannot be provided the service as agreed, or you want to cancel a purchase, use the refund route in your account or write to support@kleetranslate.com with your account email, the order number and a description; never send a payment password or full card details.

We check and reply on the basis of how far the order was fulfilled and what the applicable law requires. After a refund the corresponding entitlements and credits are withdrawn, the subscription state before the purchase is restored where necessary, and we explain what was done. An order that was paid but could not grant the entitlement automatically is reconciled, fulfilled or refunded; the payment provider's processing time can affect when the money actually arrives. For orders bought through Creem, you can also use the transaction support route given at its checkout or in its order email, and we will help verify what was delivered; using Creem does not reduce the refund or remedy rights you have under the law.

Nothing in this agreement uses the words “digital service”, “credits already delivered” or “use has begun” to rule out statutory rights of withdrawal, refund, repair or other remedies. For example, consumers covered by EU or EEA distance-contract rules generally have a 14-day withdrawal period; whether an exception applies, and whether the part already performed can be charged for, depends on the type of service and on the separate express request or consent obtained under the law. Accepting this agreement is not a waiver of those rights, and statutory rights do not depend on the operator's approval.

08 · Content rights and acceptable use

You must hold the rights and permissions needed for the content you submit or ask to have translated, and comply with your local law and the original platform's rules. Processing content does not give us ownership of it; you authorise only us and the service providers needed to deliver the service to process that content as far as necessary to translate it, maintain your personal cache, troubleshoot and handle lawful requests.

Using a translation remains subject to the rights in the original content, the applicable law and the relevant model terms. AI output carries no guarantee of originality, and it does not automatically grant you a licence to publish, commercially adapt or resell a third party's work.

The service must not be used to infringe privacy or intellectual property, to submit sensitive information you have no right to process, to commit fraud, or to scrape other people's data maliciously, attack systems, or circumvent per-user isolation and billing limits. For lawful research, interoperability or uses the law expressly permits, this section imposes no restriction beyond the law.

09 · Changes, limits and termination

Website structures, subtitle interfaces, model availability and network conditions change, and the service may be briefly unavailable during maintenance. We deal with faults reasonably and give advance notice of changes that materially affect entitlements you have paid for; where we cannot continue to provide a purchased service, we provide an appropriate remedy under the contract and applicable law, and a unilateral announcement does not cancel our legal responsibilities.

Where there is a reasonable basis to believe there is account theft, fraud, serious abuse, a breach of the service-region limit or a legal requirement, we may take necessary and proportionate measures. Except where security, a legal requirement or an emergency does not allow it, we will explain why and provide a route to appeal and put things right through the support address.

You can stop using the service, turn off automatic translation or ask to close your account. Stopping or uninstalling the extension does not by itself start a refund; subscriptions, rolled-over credits, refunds and data deletion are handled under this agreement and the privacy policy respectively. Ending the service does not affect transaction disputes that already arose or rights preserved by law.

10 · Liability and your legal rights

We provide the service with reasonable skill and care. Beyond what we expressly promise and what the applicable law requires, we do not promise that translations are always correct, that every website or video is always compatible, that the service is never interrupted, or that every model is always available.

You should check translations against your purpose, keep important originals, and take reasonable steps to limit loss when you notice a problem. Each side's liability is determined by actual fault, causation, the promises made and the applicable law.

Nothing in this agreement excludes or limits liability that the law does not allow to be excluded or limited, including liability for fraud, intent or gross negligence, and consumer, privacy and personal-injury liability that cannot be excluded by law. There is no term saying that the user bears all losses, or that using this service by itself releases the operator from responsibility.

11 · Disputes, updates and contact

If there is a dispute, contact support first with your account, order or job details; we will look into it and try to resolve it. You can still seek redress from a court or authority with jurisdiction under the law; this agreement does not require you to give up collective redress, and it imposes no mandatory arbitration and no exclusive foreign venue.

This agreement is governed by the law of mainland China (excluding Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan), because that is where the operator is. This does not reduce the protection you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of your habitual residence — those rules still apply, and you may also sue in the courts with jurisdiction where you live. Purchases completed through Creem carry its own transaction terms, which likewise do not exclude your statutory rights. If an individual clause is invalid, the remaining clauses that can stand on their own remain effective.

Each version of this agreement carries its date. Changes to prices, billing, entitlements already purchased or other significant terms will be explained in advance through the website, the extension or an account notice, and separate consent will be obtained where the law requires it; obligations for orders already completed are never increased retroactively. You may choose not to buy or use the service afterwards, and you keep your statutory rights over what you have already purchased.
